Free 3D sauna planner

Your Best Friend in Sauna Design

SaunaDesignPro is a free 3D sauna planner from Sauna Marketplace. It sizes the heater, places it by that heater's own clearances, and counts every board for the room you draw. Same design in, same takeoff out.

We built SaunaDesignPro after watching our customers, and our own team, ask chatbots to size heaters and count boards. Ask twice and you got two answers. In the planner, every number comes from fixed rules: the heater's rated room volume, the clearances in its manual, the width and length of each board. Draw the same room tomorrow and you get the same list.

Start from a rectangle, L-shape, triangle, or beveled footprint and set the room to your real measurements. Place doors, windows, benches, ceilings, and flooring. Move a wall and the framing, cladding, and material list move with it.

The build packet is generated from the same model: a floor plan, a framing elevation for each wall, a framing schedule and cut list, a stock-board cutting plan, a finish cut schedule, a materials schedule, and installation notes. The planner is free to use, with no account needed to start.

A kit can be a better fit than DIY.

Sometimes a sauna kit delivers a better result for less than a custom build. Compare kits on SaunaDesignPro too: explore them in 3D, check sizes and layouts, and compare package prices before deciding which route suits your space and budget.

Same room in, same takeoff out

Every release of the planner recomputes the takeoff for its Basement sauna suite plan and stops if one board changes: 88 Thermo-Aspen boards across four walls and the ceiling, and an 8 kW heater for a 271 cu ft room with a 118 cu ft glass allowance.

You don't have to read the heater manual. We did.

Heater manuals are translated from Finnish and Estonian, and most cram several models into one set of tables. The planner knows the rated room volume, the extra allowance for glass and outdoor builds, and the distances to walls, ceiling and benches for the exact heater you pick. Put it too close and the plan tells you.

  • Heater size matched to room volume, with the allowance its maker calls for when you add glass or build outdoors
  • Heater clearances from the manual for the exact heater you pick
  • An intake and an exhaust placed for the heater family you choose
  • Each bench level shown against the ceiling in the elevation view

Done with the forums?

Weeks of threads and videos, and each one contradicts the last. The planner settles the questions that have one right answer: heater size, clearances, bench height, which side the foil goes on. Spend your time on the choices that are yours, like the wood and where the window looks out.

See the wall wood next to the bench wood

Pick your cladding and your bench wood side by side, then see them together in 3D before you order a board. Thermally modified alder, aspen and spruce, in the profiles we stock.

Send your builder one link

The link opens your sauna in 3D with its drawings. Your builder, your electrician and anyone else who gets a vote see the plan you see. Outdoor designs add roof framing sheets.

  • Floor plan with every opening
  • Framing elevation for each wall
  • Framing schedule and cut list
  • Stock-board cutting plan and finish cut schedule

Every line on the list is something you can buy

In the continental US, enter your ZIP code and every specialty item shows its real price from Sauna Marketplace: wood, heater, door and glass. Framing lumber, insulation, furring strips, fasteners, and roof framing are listed in standard lumber-yard sizes to buy locally.

Build the wall in the right order

A vapor barrier on the wrong side, or boards with no air gap behind them, traps moisture inside the wall. The planner draws every framed wall with foil on the hot side, an air gap behind the cladding, and mineral wool in the bays.

Inside to outside: cladding, a furring air gap so boards dry from behind, aluminum foil on the hot side, studs with mineral wool, then sheathing, a weather barrier, and a rainscreen on outdoor builds.

Frequently asked questions

Does SaunaDesignPro use AI?

The math doesn't. Heater sizing, clearances and the takeoff are calculated by fixed rules, so the same design always gives the same result. An optional assistant can make edits when you ask, like rotating the benches, and the planner recalculates everything after each change.

Is SaunaDesignPro really free?

Yes. Plan as many saunas as you want, with no account to start, and download the build packet with its material list in any region. In the continental US, enter your ZIP code to see exact prices; elsewhere, you can ask for a quote for your region.

How do I vent an electric sauna?

It depends on the heater. Each maker publishes where the intake and exhaust go, and the planner places the vents for the heater family you choose. Check the sizes and positions against your heater's manual before you frame the openings.

Can my garage or basement become a good sauna?

Often, yes. Enter the real ceiling height and the planner sizes the heater to the room and checks the heater's clearances and minimum room height from its manual.

What do I get when the design is done?

The planner shows a 3D model you can walk through, a 2D floor plan with real dimensions, a framing elevation for each wall, and a material list you can edit. You can download the build packet (PDF) with the floor plan, framing elevations, cut list, cutting schedules, and materials schedule, plus the framing cut list (CSV) and each wall's framing elevation (PNG). The packet prints exact prices with a continental US ZIP code and price ranges without one.
