With an exposed stone basket the heat and steam radiate out the sides and settle into the lower half of the room, instead of tunneling straight up and pooling at the ceiling the way a closed/solid body does. It is the same trade you get with any open-basket heater - more warmth where your body actually is - and on a Saunum the air-blending fan reinforces it.
Hot-ceiling/cold-floor stratification gets worse as rooms grow. The AIR L’s fan-driven blending keeps the spread to roughly 10-15F instead of the 60-80F a conventional electric heater allows.
